Campaign picks up for ZPTC bypolls
KARIMNAGAR: Campaign for byelections to Thimmapur and Yellareddypet reserved ZPTCs in Karimnagar district is picking up momentum.
The byelections scheduled to be held on September 8 were postponed to September 16 following the death of Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy. The grief-stricken Congress rank and file has restricted their campaign to a low-key affair by organising only condolence meetings in all villages and highlighting the achievements of late YSR. Manakondur legislator A. Mohan is the only one campaigning rigorously for the party candidate, M. Anjaiah, for the Thimmapur ZPTC seat. The Congress candidates are banking on the sympathy factor.
Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar and Minister for Higher Education D. Sridhar Babu are keeping away from the campaign in the villages and only giving instructions to the party rank and file. In Yellareddypet mandal, Congress leaders K.K. Mahender Reddy, DCCB Chairman K. Ravinder Rao and others are campaigning for the party candidate, A. Rajaiah.
On the other hand, the TDP-TRS combine has intensified their campaigning in the villages. TDP candidate K. Satyanarayana is contesting from Thimmapur ZPTC and TRS candidate A. Subash from Yellareddypet. Both the parties are jointly campaigning in the respective mandals to bag the ZP Chairman post.
Sircilla TRS legislator K. Taraka Rama Rao is personally supervising the campaigning in Yellareddypet mandal and holding parleys with the village elders for the success of their party candidate. Council Member of the TRS N. Laxman Rao, TDP legislators G. Kamalakar and Ch. Vijayaramana Rao are campaigning for the TDP candidate in Thimmapur mandal.
Presently, the TDP-TRS combine has highest ZPTC members’ strength in the ZP. The TDP is projecting its Thimmapur ZPTC contestant K. Satyanarayana as ZP Chairman candidate. The CPI, which initially fielded its candidate for Thimmapur ZPTC, withdrew from contest and is supporting the TDP-TRS candidates and participating in the campaigning. The PR has fielded its candidates for the two seats and intensified its campaign.
